I have a 2007 Electra Glide Classic 96 cubic, I notices a little jerky motion in it. I am thinking of taking a trip this week end, 5 hours 1 way. Just a little nerves on the ride. Don't want it to break down on the trip, Any thoughts?
It doesn't feel like the motor is missing. I thought it might be bad gas and put in a carb cleaner. As I start to go it feel like it don't want to go, jerks a little and then is fine.
Yes the OP should have given us more details. But how does your answer help anybody? Maybe you should read more.
I am an arsehole I know.
-But heaill, we don't have a crystal ball,
The OP should do a few things or all ya can do is list ALL the possibilities.
Shall we say
Use fresh gas? yes.
Ok eliminate that.
I am of the opinion people with no mechanical knowledge should just take it to the shop and pay.
These are the very ones that own a bent screwdriver, vise grips from China, and will cross thread the spark plus as soon as we say check them.
Go back to the wax
Op, there's a few things you can do that can help you chase this down.
Fill the tank up and then run it nearly empty. Does that change anything on the jerkiness? If it does, you've got a problem in the fuel delivery. If the problem gets worse as the tank goes down, you've likely a problem with a cracked or pinholed line.
Does the jerkiness happen the same under heavy load as it does light load? If it feels worse under heavy load, you've likely an ignition problem, and old spark plugs are the #1 suspect. Not bad to simply replace them as a matter of course.
You would not be remiss in taking the bike to a shop and having a general tune up done, as well describing the problem and your intended trip. Just to make sure the bike is indeed in condition to make the trip.
My 2008 was geared same as the 2007. When I got it it was very jerky taking off from a stop. Slow riding in a parking lot was nearly impossible. With that said, everything I did improved it starting with a SE compensator. Then cams and increased compression. Most recently I changed the final gearing. Every one of these things helped and now it is just fine.
