Default police seat

Good afternoon -

I have searched and searched, and am coming up empty. Can someone confirm that the police seat from 09+ will fit an 08? I believe the only part that will not fit is the plastic piece that goes over the frame, but that's not an expensive piece. I am having a much easier time locating 09 and up, than the 08.

Thanks for the help - I have been messaging people with for sale items, and don't want to waste their time if it won't fit.

I believe it would. I looked at the parts diagram for the two years and the mounting location on the frame looks the same.

An FLHTP from '08 would have had the air-ride system and that went until maybe '11 / '12 when they switched over to the coil over seat suspension.

If you're piecing it together, just make sure your seat bracket matches the suspension you have. The air-ride bracket will have a single mounting hole on the rear and one for the coil over shock will have two mounting holes.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks for the quick reply!

Can you tell me where you are finding the parts diagrams? My GoogleFu is weak today...

If you have the two screws that come up through the fender take a measurment from there to the front location. I can measure my 17 and see if it's the same. Also measure from the two bolts rear of the battery to the front location. PM me or email me and I'll send pics of mine if it helps

I appreciate that offer. I was able to use the website above to check part numbers. The seat and front mount are identical part numbers. The seat bracket changes when the air bladder changes to coilover. I am confident that I can mount the 14 setup on my 08 and I should only need to buy the plastic piece that covers the frame.

Alright - To close this loop; a 2014 police seat will, unequivocally, fit a 2008 Street Glide. All the pieces work, except the plastic frame cover (which I knew). The thing rides like a dream now.

Some observations:
  1. I'm 5'9'' and I wear a 32'' inseam. I can flat foot easily. I have to rotate forward in the seat a bit, but the narrow front makes it easy to touch.
  2. Oddly enough, the height only affects me when I am riding, not when I am stopped. I am much higher above the fairing now, which isn't bad... or good... it just... is.
  3. The slow speed handling is incredibly improved. I had no idea this would be the case. It's like a completely different bike. I now know how the cops do it.

Good to hear! I ride one on my Limited too. It's remarkable how improved your control of the bike is with a police seat!

The only gripe I have with mine is it causes some tailbone pain after hours in the seat, which I never noticed from my work bike. Probably because I'm on and off the bike regularly at work. I found that by installing two 1/4" spacers between the seat and the seat bracket on the two rear attachment bolts, it lifts the back of the seat a bit and leans you into the bars just a tad. This little trick helps keep me from slouching and takes some pressure off my tailbone on long rides.

If you buy the accompanying Mustang rear seat, be aware the Mustang is covered in a basket weave material that doesn't match the perforated stock police seat cover. I had mine recovered over at Bitchin' Stitchin' with the same material Mustang uses so both seats match. It wasn't expensive - I think Dave over there charged me $180ish.
