HD needs to wake up and go to a similar filter.

That nut works okay if the filter isn't stuck. This thread is about stuck filters, and as it's been stated the sheet metal nut has been known to come off.

I use the "Stupid Special Harley tool, and it works fine of the Harley Branded filters I use. Never had one stuck, though.

With all the issues facing the MOCO right now, I suspect "improving" their oil filters is quite a ways down on the list.

I've been using this filter for two years now and it works great. I love being able to see what's inside every time I change oil.

Only way to go in my opinion.

I noticed the K&P reusable filters no longer have a nut at the end of the case (maybe they never did, just their competitor)........ Anyone have trouble with the "supplied" cup wrench and the crank sensor...?

K&P never had the nut on the end,. Their competitors have the nut, there is no issues with their wrench and the crank position sensor. I had one of their competitors knock off filter. It was poor in quality, so I returned it and bought the real deal.

To alleviate future filter removal issues, always put some fresh oil on the filter gasket before installing.

I use the oil filter strap wrench in the link below for filters that have been overtightened. Has not failed me yet. I got mine on Amazon for around $11.

I have a similar strap type oil filter tool & it works great too. It fits on a 1/2" drive ratchet so its even easier for leverage. Dont recall who makes it.

I have one of those. Works very well. Right now though I’m running a Drag Specialties filter with a nut on the end. Hopefully it won’t cause my motor to blow up. I ride with nomadmax all the time (going tomorrow in fact) and if he can convince me to switch to Wix I will. At least I do have a good strap wrench. He does make pretty good use of his 80 IQ points, BTW.
