Default Oil use

Hey everyone I now have 3200 Kms on my new 103 build and it seems to use some oil about 1/2 quart every 2000 kms mind you I had it right up to the full mark when I changed it and now it’s half way up the stick

its not not smoking I had it on the dyno last week and had zero smoke coming out of it plugs look good but I can smell oil burning when I’m riding

I changed the umbrella valves and had the heads rebuilt as well I am running an open air cleaner

Who did the work? I'll go out on a limb and suggest that you take it back to them and make it their problem. If you built it, well...

Don't fill it to the full mark. It will blow it out your breather if you do. Have you seen any oil on your cam cover? Do you have an aftermarket breather?
At most, fill it half way between full and low.

I always go 3 QTs. on a fresh oil change and add after that.
I generally like to keep between 1/2-3/4 on the stick.
4
Qts. is too much.

no oil on the cam cover I changed the air filter to one of the big k&n ones and since then I get no oil blowing onto the bag

bike has 205 ccp both cylinders and runs great

i notice if I drive normal and don’t beat on it it doesn’t seem to use any oil but running down the highway at 70 plus that’s when I get it plus it’s been hot as hell here

Pull air filter and look into throttle body. My guess is it’ll be pretty oily in there.
Search up some of the threads about by-passing the head breather bolts so they dont drop into intake.
Believe it or not I’ve seen bikes actually pull oily air into intake from umbrella valves.
I route mine away from intake to a little k&n filter down by footboard.
No vacuum pulling oil out of crankase. No hot oily air going back into combustion chamber.
Glad to hear you’re putting miles on that build!
i’ve only got about 1k on mine.

im going to do a leak down test and see but I think the rings are fine

before I did all of this work it used to spray oil all over the saddle bag when it was a 96 now that I bored it to a 103 it doesn’t spray it anymore but seems to suck it into the intake more and I ridenit about the same as I did before

i did put new rocker boxes on as I got new ones that are black

I wouldnt worry to much. 1/2 quart in 2000 k on fresh build isn’t much. When i bought my 96 new i was stressed because the first thousand k it burnt a quart and after that never used a drop in 50000kms

A leakdown test isn't going to help you for oil consumption. If your rings did not seat properly the oil control rings are going to be the culprit. Leakdown test does not reveal that.
