I picked up a 2011 Road King Classic two weeks ago. Almost finished adding 14" Chubby's. Had the exhaust off so I figured I'd open up a "window" and remove the cat and throw on a set or 4" Rinharts.
Bike has stock intake.... is a tuner required for it to run right?
Yes, you removed an emissions part and eventually the engine is going to start throwing a CE light.
What tunes to choose, well let the debate begin.

He will not throw a check engine light … or maybe I should ask … which DTC would appear??
If your content with mediocre performance and a hot running bike, just ride it. How far are you from gMR performance in ft worth? One of the top tuners in the country.

gMR...? I'm only 50 minutes or so from Fort Worth.
Easy for me to say because its not my money but a stage 1: Decat. Slip On's, High Flow A/C, and a good tune will make you love your bike more and it will love you back when you roll on the new found power. Stage 1 is a must for me.
… and then the fun begins big bore, cams, porting etc,,,
