I have a '13 Roadglide Custom and looking to replace the POS factory air shocks. I have located some of the 12" Premium hand adjustable shocks off of a '16 CVO.
Would that be a good inexpensive upgrade? Thanks.
In my opinion no, go with Ohlins or Pro Action if you want top quality, performance, and support. However, anything is better than stock. I had the Premium hand adjustables for a short time. They are better than stock, but not worth it in the long run.
I just changed the stock rear air shocks on my 15 Limited to the standard height hand adjustable shocks and am fairly well pleased with the difference in ride quality. They were well worth the price I paid from a fellow forum member.
Shock upgrades are like Windshield, and Mufflers around here, everyone has an opinion.
It depends on how much you can afford, the more you spend higher the quality of shocks.
Do your research, and get the highest quality pair of shocks your money will buy, it will still
Beat stock shocks any day of the week.
I also got a good deal on some used ones on here from a member...they were well worth the $160 I paid....i think they're a nice upgrade but one for a good price...too many options for what they want for them new, for around $200-250 they are a solid buy.
I sold my 13” hand adjustables to another member with air shocks. He likes them better, but isn’t blown away by them. If you’re on a budget, you can get them for about $250 or so. The best advice was from HB Soldier 3...go ahead and spend the money on Pro Actions (my choice) or Legends, Ohlins...it’ll be one of the best upgrades you’ll do.
I chased a "great" suspension on my '12 Limited. I tried 3 different shocks, the last were SuperShox. I spent probably a total of a little under $2K on my rear suspension when all was said and done... The Supershox were good, but just not great....!
For my '16 Ultra, I'm gonna "buy once, cry once" and go for Ohlins this time around.....
Dont know your financial situation but if you can afford to get a quality aftermarket set of shocks. Google..... read some threads on here and determine the brand you want. Almost anything is better than the factory crap whether it came off a CVO or not.
With that being said when it came time to upgrade my Roadglide I went with a set of 13 Pro-Action shocks.
