Last night I received my Vance & Hines ovals slip-ons and fuel pak. In less than an hour, I had the job completed and was on a test ride.
If you're even remotely thinking of doing this mod, I say don't wait another minute. The oval slip-ons look fantastic and sound great. I was hesitant about fooling with the ECU but the Fuel Pak is so simple to install and program that even someone without any mechanical abilities can do it.
My '07 Road King now sounds like a Harley should IMO and it's not so loud that I can't hear the radio. The only noticible difference in performance is a bit more responsive throttle in the top end (this in addition tohow it ran after I did the stage I A/C).
I don't get any popping on decel at all. I even wrapped it up to 90 and did a hard decel just tofind outand all I get is a great sounding rumble. My last bike had obnoxious popping on even the slightest decel (Hard Krome double duece straight pipes) so I half expected it this time.
My Fuel Pack is on order- so your eval was of interest to me.
Any detonation on acceleration? Any reduction in felt engine heat?
No ping on accel at all. I would have been surprised if it did since the whole idea of the fuel pak is to make a richer mix. I have not noticed any heat reduction. I didn't have a problem with heat before the fuel pak and slipons though so there may be a slight decrease.
I got my V&H setup a few weeks back and a friend of mine and I were able to put it all in this week. We ran into a pretty good sized problem though when I tried to remove the 2 main bolts on the ECU (according to FuelPak instructions) in order to attach the FuelPak and its bracket and now my dresser won't stop revving when it's started. BTW, the pipes sound unbelievable - I've got the Ness Stage I Big Sucker and my buddy programmed the FuelPak according to all the necessary specs - any advice would be greatly appreciated as I think I may have damaged the ECU trying to undo the bolts.
the V&H fuel pack should let the 'ecm' basically take over at idle... so it ends up leaning out again on the '07s... so heat is still an issue at idle. but engine cools down well when you move again. I love the fuel pack with my RH TDs. I'm sure I could get a few more ponies and torque from a PC-III or SERT ... but not worth the price for that and a dyno to get it dialed-in
