I rode the beartooth this weekend. Weather was great. I didn't plan very well and had to ride Yellowstone at night. This is not advised. Cold and nothing like coming around a corner to have your lights light up two elk standing in the lane next to where you're headed. All I could do was yell at them to keep em from coming into my lane. There was no way I was going to be able to stop.
Just rode the pass, its an awesome ride with fantastic scenery.
As stated, when in SD, Iron mountain Hwy is kinda like the dragon, with 300+ curves in 7 miles. Needles hwy is a pay road, $10. But its spectacular.
And yes, road construction in Yellowstone is bad. The rip the roads out down to the dirt, and run water trucks to keep the dust down. Its only done in few mile sections, but its sloppy.
I ran 212 from Sturgis to Red Lodge and continued the next morning on all the way to Mammoth, down through the park, out the east entrance to Shoshone lodge and Ranch. (What an awesome place to stay!!!) friendliest owners you ever want to meet. Great food, horseback riding, ect.
