How do you remove the baffle in the Fatcat muffler?
I've removed the small bolt, and tried pushing it out from the front, tried pulling it out from the back.............this thing won't budge.
The previous owner took the standard baffle out and opened up the can and put wrapping around the baffle, tac welded it back together, and put it back in the muffler. I think the tac welds were not smoothed down before he put it back in the muffler, and they have bound up in there.
Stand it upright, on the end that clamps to the collector. Spray the inside of the tube LIBERALLY with WD40, or something similar and let it sit for a bit. The objective being to let the oil seep down in between the can and the baffle. Then get your self a 2x4 or 4x4 and lay it on a solid floor (like concrete). Then hold the muffler, ehhaust end down, over the wood and drop it on the wood. Try 6~8" drop a couple times and see if ya can't get it to slide out. If not, you may have to raise it a little higher.
That is what I'm going to do tonight, I have to remove the exhaust to fix my leak at the front head...........so I might as well swap baffles while I'm at it. Big piece of pine wood and a big can of wd-40..........hopefully it works for me.
I got the quiet baffle installed tonight.................man that baffle does not like to come out of the muffler. Using the wd-40 and peice of wood works great to get it moving, then the last part of it got hung up. I had to put the baffle in my vise loosely, then grap the muffler body and pull it towards me to snap the baffle loose and get it out.
The quiet baffle went in pretty easy, used a 2x4 to get it in the last little bit, put the screw in and it's all good to go.
The sound is pretty good, a tight deep rumble...........not blatty at all, not raspy at all, and not overly loud either. It's good to have "that" sound back.....the Supertrapp didn't have "that" sound.
