I don't think there's 3K profit for the dealer in a new bike. Maybe the top models. Where they "get you" is in finance and accesories and of course dealer prep. Our local dealer has had the same bikes on the floor for months. The salesman told me they moved two RoadGlides and two Deluxe's in one day though.
I'd buy a new one for $2500 to $3000 off MSRP. Around here your lucky if they will take off $1000. Tried a couple of time a couple of months ago with no luck. Had to buy used. If They had told me they were starting the 2.99% I would have gotten a new one, Really wanted a 96/6 speed. Let us know what happens.
I was in WI back in early June. Onesaleslady told me that I was a week late. Their floor stock was lowered to move. There was a new 07 RKC, two-tone w/security that was sold for $16.7K (it had a sold - send out for custom paint sticker on it). I had her make sure it was sold. Once it was confirmed, I excused myself to the bathroom (I did not want the friends I was with to see my flexibility of kicking myself in the a$$).
Went to another dealer later that day....darn saleslady had me....I was close to pulling the trigger, very close....a new 07 RK, two-tone w/security.....love the hard bags....she got down and dirty too quick - $17.2K ...I was trying to recover and she said they would throwin and install cruise control ...the fat boy was doing the one-legged dance...my reservations were the info about hotter than desired engine heat and the "whine" in 5th gear that I had read about here. I decided to wait.....
I had planned on renting a RK from the first dealer the following weekend....I did and had no issues with either heat or whine. Of course stopped by the second dealer and the RK was goneâŚ.on well, Iâll see if the dealers want to move anything in my area.
that's like pullin your own tooth instead of going to the dentist. You might get lucky but usually its going to be painful. If you must save 3k then I would look for a slightly used garage queens bike. lots of good deals there?
Guys, I reading a article in the paper today talking about how dealers really need to move 2007 inventory now. Sales were weaker then expected. Tommarrow is 6/30 the end of the peak selling quarter for HD. I was thinking I might make a offer of $3000 off msrp and see what they say(assuming they have something good to buy in stock). If they say no, I will just leave it alone. Anyone ever try to buy at the 11th hour at the end of the quater or month? I have always heard they do deals that"no one gets" at the last second.
You can try it, but I'll bet a cold one you won't get it on a high-demand item like a SG. Maybe on a V-Rod or Buell. My dealer was selling '06's well into the '07 season for only $1k or so off list, and that was with the added attraction of the 96" motor. The '08's likely won't have any such draw, so other than paint there may not be much difference.
