Default Passenger Backrest

I'm looking to add a passenger backrest to my SGS, and finding the selection process more complex than expected (never had a bike with this equipment in the past). First, somewhat surprised at the cost. And second, there are a million options. Wondering if anyone has recommendations for a "standard" backrest at a reasonable cost. Will be installing the HD 4-point kit, but open to both HD and non-HD sissy bar and pad. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

not much to think about.
HD does make both a short and tall sissy bar. I have both, and prefer the look of the short. The tall just looks like it's more of an add on, and doesn't flow with the look as well. The tall may, or may not, be more comfortable for the passenger. My wife doesn't mind the short, so I use that one mostly. The pad is interchangeable, so get one that goes well with the seat. picture is the short one. Important thing is to know what seat you will be using. I have a black gator setup from C&C (highly recommend C&C), so the backrest pad matches.

Cavalry Fiberglass out of South San Francisco. They have a website store, but their eBay store is where the savings are. Very good quality stuff.

Went with the HD (high dollar) tall sissy bar and the Tourrest backrest pad. The pad is a bit large, but wife loves the larger back contact area and the arm rests. I just pull it off when riding solo.

Thanks! Bought it. Sad thing is that this all adds up to $475 retail HD price. So $500 (with tax) to add a little backrest to your bike. Seems a bit high. Thanks again for finding me the deal. I will post again once received with a pic of it mounted.

I went with the HD short on my Street Glide. Looks good and I am happy with it. You may be able to find one on Craigslist to save a few bucks.

I went with this in chrome for my bike, love it! I then attached a kuryakyn pet carrier to the luggage rack, which can do double duty as a tour pack if the pug isn't riding.

My opinion on back rests is very simple - if you are going to leave on the bike 100% of the time, but not have a passenger, get HD and get one that looks good. If you are going to have a passenger most of the time, get HD and get one that is comfortable. And, lastly, if you are only going to put the backrest on when needed, go with the cheapest like I did
