I would rather have the option to take it off than not. I do notice when it's on or off.

Default Tourpack

My last bike had that trunk, and the 8 years I had the bike, I used it maybe three times, as a backrest for my passenger. Never a problem, as far as weight, or handling was concerned. So, when I bought the new bike in '08, I went for the FLHT, since I don't listen to tunes while riding, and I much prefer the lower lines of the bike without the trunk on it. I have the removable backrest for my wife, but the bike is usually without it, plus I run a solo seat most of the time. I do like the long, low look. Just my preference.

I have a quick detach kit on my '02 Ultra. when I ride without the tour pak I put a street glide seat on in place of the pillowy Ultra seat. makes it a whole different bike handling wise. lower and further back seating position, and lower CG is way more noticeable especially at low speeds. it's like having 2 bikes in one.

on the older chassis like mine, the high speed sweeper curve wallow or "bagger wobble" is a lot less frequent without the added weight of the tour pak. not that I ride aggressive that often with the tour pak on, but the wiggle is certainly more pronounced and happens at lower speeds than without. the only time I have the trunk on is when I'm on long trips, and it's loaded down heavy. with the pak off and the bags empty it's a different animal.

The TP does not weigh that much but being up high it changes the center of gravity and makes the bike feel a bit different especially when loaded.
