Default Ultra Classic Thermometer

Just a thought....for the money we pay for these bikes you'd figure that the thermometer would be a little more accurate that it actually is. Where is the sensor located for this gauge? I have trouble believing the indicated temperature at the best of times. I is just sort of a "guide" as to the actual temperature.

The sensor is mounted under the fairing. While capable of bein' accurate, its' location makes that almost impossible....

I believe if you do a search you will find a way to change the location of the sensor so the guage reflects air temperature "outside" the fairing.

It's a feature...HD puts it there as a place holder for future use when you find something useful to replace it with.

Some folks think it's a good place for an oil temp guage...not that knowing your engine temp is especially valuable...after all, are you going to pull off and let it cool, then ride more and pull over to wait for it to cool again? Money for the guage might be better spent on a cooler right up front after all.

Some folks have put the compass there...only to find that it is an alternative placeholder.

I'm still waiting to find something useful to put there...

Very easy to move the sensor outside the fairing... Once I did that the temp gauge is very accurate. Mine is now within 2 degrees of the oil-filled one that's mounted on my handlebar/grip. It used to always be like 15 degrees HIGHER than the true temp, now it's acceptably accurate.

Remove the fairing cover, find the sensor, clip the wires and splice in about 14" of wire to lenghthen them, drop the sensore out the bottom of the fairing and attach it to that lower chrome plate behind the accessory light bar (can't see it and it's now in the ambient air and not stuck inside a hot-box). Took me maybe half an hour at most.

I completely agree with Arizona. Easy fix and once outside of the fairing, it is fairly accurate.

That being said, I really don't care what the temp is...I'm going to ride when I want to ride. Oil temp? maybe just as important as air temp.

The only additional thing is to paint the little white box flat black so it blends better with the front end.

can't believe you are sniveling about the temp guage. Next thing you know, you'll be bitchin' about the accuracy of the fuel guage or the custom built rattle and inducted heating system of the '07s. don't you know that all of these premium accessories come standard on your scoot, and HD doesn't ask you to pay more for them?if you wanted everything to work correctly, HD ain't the bike. Don't ya just love MOCO?

I looked at that stoopit guage a few times, decided I damn well KNEW whether it was 90 degrees or 40 degrees outside, and dumped it for an oil guage!

Honestly...techie questions about what the weather is like outside...(I pretty much ride outside!)
