Voltage regulator
As mentioned above. After having two harley regulators go out , I bought a cycle electric. One day it too quit charging. I started to look for other issues. The plug where the regulator goes to the battery (right side as you sit on the bike) was supposed to be encapsulated (wires and connector pins won't move) but I found the positive to the battery one could move back in plug. So as you plugged it in , instead of a male /female inserted tight connection only the ends were touching and any movement of the cable or heavy loads cause it to not make a good connection. I ordered the cable replacement (they had in stock so you know it was not a rare problem) and replaced bad piece. So far no more issues at all. Hope that helps.
I had VR problems on my 06RG three years ago. Ended up replacing the VR 3 times on my own dime. Combed the bike for problems each time. Stator was good each time but replaced it anyway with a Cycle Electronics stator. Killed another VR. Pulled the wire harness out to do a close check. No problems. Installed another VR and that one died. Checked out bad at the dealer. Went and bought a 16RGU. That fixed my VR problem. 06RG is still on the table where I quit working on it.
