I own a 2017 streetglide special Laguna orange ,love the bike lots of upgrades ( chrome front end ,chrome controls ,stainless lines heat grips, seat and upgrade boom w/amp and xm .i was at the local Harley shop and saw a hard candy hot rod red flake on a 2018 streetglide special all blacked out with stretched out bags .i said to the manager I would love that paint but on a chrome bike ,he said no problem .He would swap paints with a new chrome streetglide 2019 ,I said I have done so much to my bike that I wouldn't want to start over ,he said no problem,I will go ask the owner if we can swap paint with your bike .He got back to me right away and said ,3000.00 and my paint and labor cost to remove and put on (1520.00) total costotd $4520.00 .. Fair ?? Thanks everyone I this web page !!
Been looking for a hard candy gold pair ser for my ride. Seams like the ones I found are 3-4 K for the set. So the 3k sounds like the going rat, but that’s without labor, doenset sound too bad to me..
i did did however miss out on a set for just over 1 k..
Man if it’s a color you want, to me it sounds fair to me. A good aftermarket paint job starts at 3k and when you break out candy colors it goes up from there. I say do it.
I agree with the others that's probably not that bad of a price. Big bonus is you do not have to deal with the painter and wait for them to take their sweet time.
What's the price to swap out bikes, add your extra's vs the price to change out tins, may be worth considering. Any work I have had done, always go over to see if everything is done and put back correct. Nothing like original torques on original equipment.......
These statements of swapping tins/colors at a dealer really surprised me. Is this common? If you run a bikes VIN does it state factory color? Im not sure I would be happy to learn after the fact that my new bike had that done early in its life; I would worry about something not being done correct and having rattles.
the price sounds fair to me. I bought a Sportster and the dealer swapped the black tins for a different color as part of the deal. Everything was just like the factory and never had any rattles or problems. If thats the color you desire. Go for it. You only live once.
Did you add all the stuff to your present bike yourself or pay the shop for the labor? If you had it done, how does the labor charge now compare with the labor charge then for essentially the same work, understanding that it takes extra time to remove the stuff from your old bike, put it on the new one, AND put the stock stuff onto the "donor" bike. If you don't want to PAY for it, don't do it. Seems easy enough.
Thx for replays if I choose to do it I will post pics ....but it sounds like I'm leaning towards it .that paint and my chrome would look awesome together .
