Default RE: Loose Motor Mount

The nut that is on the bottom of the motor mount is supposed to be a lock nut.
Make sure that it actually is. The lock nut will nold better than lock tite and you will not have to re-glue if you take it off.
If it is not already a lock nut, any major hardware store will have the nuts.
Make sure you get the one that DOES NOT have the nylon insert. That will not hold up under the heat/road conditions. The correct nut is all steel and sort of egg shaped (not actually round). Should cost no more than a coulpe/four bucks even if you get the stainless steel nut.
Or just get the one from HD.

BTW...i posted a detailed set of instructions on how to replace the mount.

I paid $19.99 for my 1/2" torque wrench and I think $29.99 for the 3/8" from Harbor Freight. Definately worth the money!

Make sure any threads, be it on a nut, bolt, threaded insert or case, etc is clean and no oil residue. I use brake cleaner. If not, the loctite won't adhere properly. You can also buy the loctite primer but, it isn't necessary.

I recently had the two breather bolts come loose on my air filter backplate. This is where these bolts are screwed into the head. My guess is the shop that installed them didn't clean the threads inside the head. Since they get coated with oil, the loctite didn't hold.

Torque wrenches are not expensive unless, you want the Snap-On or other named brand ones. I bought a 1/2 drive at Pep Boys for $40. I would suggest places like Checker, AutoZone, Harbor Freight, etc. Just make sure that you always store it set with the torque setting to the lowest setting on the scale. This does not mean to back the setting off as far as it can go (although some do manufactures do suggest that). If the lowest setting is 10 foot pounds, for example, store it set to 10 foot pounds. If not, the spring inside will stretch or compressand you will loose the accuracy. Even for those that recommend storing with the setting turned down as low as it will go, it you set it to the lowest scale setting, it will still work fine.

I hit a bump today and thought I heard the jiffystand bounce.
If the "Stealer" has been performing your periodic services, you're not getting your money's worth. Those big bucks they get covers enough time for the tech to go over the fasteners to ensure tightness...and that bolt is right near the oil filter staring at you. You were lucky this time.

I now have 8600 miles on my scoot. I just had 5k mile service in November. I wonder if was loose then. Oh, well. Glad I caught it. I will be going over it thoroughly now and then again after the 10k service.

Stop by one of the local parts stores and they rent tools at most of these at no charge. Just a deposit. Oreillys has a prettty good selection. Used there obd2 scanner in the parking lot to check what engine light was for, erased code after we got done. Pull into the parking lot and torque it.
