can anyone tell me what these different connectors are for? these were all the unused ones from inside the fairing. trying to install an amp and rear speakers (2014 SGS)
also is flashing requiring to get rear speaker output? been doing some research on here but just seem to get more confused! some say a line leveler would work instead of flashing but ive seen some say that's only for 2015 and up...the whole flashing thing is foreign to me. I am used to old school car stereos from high school that were pretty simple to wire and connect...
Cant help with the connectors, but... I believe you will have to get your stereo "flashed"... I did when I added an amp. It was explained to me that the flash turned off the head-unit's amp and told it to use the newly installed amp instead. Basically so you do not have a bi-amp thing going on and blow speakers. Plus if you currently have just the factory front speakers, you need the fader activated or added to the menu. I already had the factory 4 speakers on mine and the fader control, and when I had the amp added and flashed the fader graphic changed, at least in appearance.
Of course I was told the same thing about having to flash it when I added the CB, but for that it was not necessary. After I installed the module the bike "saw" the module was installed and worked just fine without a trip to the dealer...
I am pretty sure the difference is that with the amp addition it has to be flashed so it just uses the new amp and turns off the head-unit's amp... as well as add the fader screen to the audio menu.
so doing some more digging and looking at wiring diagrams it looks like #1 is for a CB and #2 is an accessory connection, in particular for a headset...leaving #3 and #4...I think #3 is for the rear speakers which is what I am hoping, however without having it flashed yet I am unable to confirm, assuming the stereo currently would not send out a signal to the rear speakers. and then #4 I am not sure, and there are actually two of these, one on either side. both have a black and purple(?) wire going into the connector...
I just added rear speakers to my 2015 StreetGlide and #3 looks like the same plug I used so I would say you are correct. I haven't done the re-flash yet since I won't be insuring the bike for a few more weeks.
