Taking a chance on the Ride-On product and just ordered some. The you-tubes for this stuff were pretty convincing. Should work well as long as the puncture is on the central road contact area.
This is with all due respect and my opinion is intended for your info only (not to start a debate with anyone). As always, to each, his own.
Im not familiar with the product, but I assume its some kind of spray in sealant. Its essentially an airborne glue that settles due to centrifugal force. It's not an aerosol, not sprayed in and it's not a glue. "Ride-On Tire Protection is a line of water based gel-like sealants and tire balancers containing fibers six times stronger than steel that coat the inner (contact patch area) of tires". It is a water based sealant that is applied to the tire through the valve or during the tire fitting.
Im not buying the 'self balancing' aspects because theres no way an aerosol suspended in a tire can settle in and find weight differences (again, it's not), especially considering (or once again, assuming) that the tire is already balanced. "This protective coating is formulated to prevent flats caused by punctures, hydrodynamically balance tire/wheel assemblies (with or without wheel weights) for the life of the tire." The guys that do believe it are the ones that have installed Ride-On along with their new tires and not balanced the wheels,,, or the ones that have installed it in a balanced tire/wheel and then lost a wheel weight.
Look, Im not knocking 'spray in' style tire repair compounds, but I consider them an emergency item. It will get you home if you are stranded, but you are (generally) going to have to replace the tire. Do you really want to trust a tire thats been repaired with spray adhesive and no other physical barrier? I totally agree with you and no, I wouldn't trust it. But would trust Ride-On to get me home. After Ride-On has sealed a puncture, some guys will leave it alone for the remaining life of the tire. Others will have the tire replaced when convenient. Me??? The jury is still out.
Tire repair kits have come a great way in the last 10 years. Id rather opt for a Small compressor and pump kit. (Just bought one last week due to this thread) Yes they have, and I have no doubt that you'll be way better off than getting stranded somewhere waiting for a tow truck. The only difference will be that you have a little down time on the side of the road, and I won't know I picked up a nail unless I look for one when the bike's on a jack (lol).
Save the space in your bag and just put Ride-On in your tires. Anything you could fix with a tire kit will be taken care of by the Ride-On. Plus, you can remove your wheel weights because it hydrodynamically balances your tires.
any idea how this would affect the warranty? Extended warranty with tire and wheel package.
So, I've been thinking about the Ride-On for a few years now and thanks to this thread, I now have a 3-pack (for $37 on eBay), of it coming along with a new Dynaplug kit that I already bought, for any nails outside the contact patch that Ride-On covers. Feel better about the week long ride through the deserts of AZ & UT in a few weeks, not to mention the twisty mountain roads up here where we live. Thanks for all the input in this thread as well as helping me spend more $$$........ again!
I'm not too worried about a tire warranty. Been on the road since the late 60's and have never had to warranty any tire. I haven't heard of this product damaging a tire prematurely but I may stand to be corrected.
If it became an issue it might be a $300 issue vs. a tow / pickup which might be twice that or more.
Keeping on going instead of waiting hours on some highway in either broiling heat or pouring rain is worth risking a small dollar warranty. Also once a tire has holes in it I wouldn't keep it anyhow.

Not to mention the possibility of losing your hotel room money because you've passed the "Free Cancelation" date and can't get there, and then have to come out of pocket for the hotel room that is closest to you and the repair shop that is going to fix you bike the next day....... maybe.
