Rebuilt primary now I can't shift into 2nd, sometimes?
I just replaced my compensator, rebuilt my clutch, new primary chain and tensioner on my 99 FLHRCI. Took it for a test ride yesterday and couldn't shift from 1st to 2nd, felt like I was kicking a brick wall. It will shift sometimes with the engine off, sometimes not. Could the new primary chain be too tight or do I have issues internal to my trans? The primary chain had a play in it when I reassembled everything. Just looking for some thoughts before I tear it down again.
Just a thought.... any chance your shift lever is hitting something.... not allowing full travel?

Sounds like clutch is not disengaging, possible cable adjustment or when you rebuilt the clutch something didn't go back together properly. Clutch disc's are the right ones?
I would agree with the clutch but with the engine not running the clutch has nothing to do with it. I can freely move the rear wheel back and forth so there is no force on the transmission with the engine off.
What?
If you are in gear with the engine off the clutch is engaged!
If you can spin the wheel in first gear with the engine off....you have a clutch problem!
