While the thread isn't about tire types, I would throw out there the newer Dunlop Elite 4 tires. Have the hard compound center rear tires and a different tread pattern than the 3's or American Elites but are long wearing, excellent tires. I use one on the rear (wider than stock) I like it a lot.
I won't let anyone but me remove the wheels from the bike, they would scratch the heck out of the swingarm or wheel. The rear is a pain but I prefer doing it myself. When I pulled it last year I found some paint coming off the swingarm so I pulled it, refinished the bad spots and replaced the isolators and installed the wheel with the arm wrapped in rags so no scratches or gouges.
