Default Street Tuner Install

I know the deal with 3rd party tuners and warranty. I have my new 2019 RKS with new breather and muffler, all HD SE parts. Dealer is saying they have to install the tuner to keep warranty in tact. This sounds off, but wanted to check here. In the grand scheme, the money isn't a major issue. The time to get the bike to them and back is.

Yes, you need the tuner to install the HD stage 1 map

Correct. But can I install the tuner without voiding the warranty or does it have to be at the dealer? Dealer is saying they have to install it.

If you install the tuner "Black Box" how will you program the correct algorithms?

Downloading the map to the bike is quick easy with the street tuner. Just need a laptop and basic computer skill. That said, I'm honestly not sure about the warranty part. There are multiple maps to choose from in the HD software and downloading the wrong map is a possibility, so I can kind of see why the dealer would say they need to install the tune for warranty purposes.

MTBIG is missing the point here.

I have heard of the dealer installing the tune to keep the warranty, it is definitely their way of making a little extra cash on you. They probably want to install it then the tune will be terrible and you have to take it back for a "Dyno" tune for 800$.

In hindsight you could install the tuner and remove it before taking back to the dealer for any reason. Not sure if the ECU will show any codes or indicate a tuner was previously installed but you could take the risk.

Not concerned about the hour labor, just the time. Guess I'll bite the bullet and schedule the install.
