Default 2012 Street Glide Ignition

I've searched and searched but I can't seem to find the answer I am looking for so I figured i'd give this a shot.

I have a 2012 Street glide and I am having issues with my ignition locking. I have read the posts about alignment and so on but my ignition works in all position and it will lock the forks and so on but when I use the key to keep the ignition locked to fork lock it doesn't stay locked. Once I turn to fork lock and use the key to lock the ignition down and remove the key, I can wiggle the ignition and it'll pop back up and free to move.

So I am not sure what exactly is wrong here. I have considered ordering a new ignition but I would rather find out if there is a fix. Is it possible for the locking mechanism to be 'worn' and not locking properly?

Any info/help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Just a try I have this on occasion with my '09 Electra. Wiggle the handle bars to the left. Sometimes you don't get proper alignment. Doing this will let the lock go into place. Just a try.

I am after trying that and basically everything else. Not quite sure what else to do besides buy a new ignition but what if that doesnt fix it either you know.

Default Same Problem

I have the same issue. 2012 Street Glide.
The ignition lock will push down, stay down and the key will turn to lock and remove. The forks won’t turn, but I can grab the ****, pull it up with no key and turn it to ignition. It’ll unlock, start up and run.

I’ve heard if the previous owner removed it for modifications they might not have aligned the cam inside properly and it can be fixed by removing it, aligning the cam properly and re-inserting it. Can anyone confirm this?

OP; It's a bitch, but you just need to keep trying...something's not properly aligned in there. I removed/installed the ignition on former '09 FLHX many times a a few occasions it had this issue, but kept re-aligning w/different positions and it eventually falls into proper place.

Had the exact same problem on my 2012 electra glide. I pulled the ignition switch and used a copper tube (youtube video) to align everything. Make sure your bars are turned all the way left. This fixed my issues.

I know this is old but after so many hours taking apart the ignition this is what worked for me. I got a new **** and it has fixed the problem. The old one didn't engage enough to stay in place . I ordered from Ronnie's Harley-Davidson
