So according to everyone I should be looking at a new helmet. There are a lot out there but Im having trouble finding one similar to what I currently have. My requirements are a half helmet with removable ear protection and a Clear hidden pulldown shield. There are few out there, but all I can find are those that are a flat black finish. They mark easy, they look horrible when scratched up and there is nothing you can do to keep that from happening. Just a slight bump or nick and it stands right out. Anyone got any recommendations? I like the one I have but it only comes in flat black and im not going to go that route again. Don't like full face or 3/4 as I wear glasses and its a pain putting one of those on.
I wear a Bell Pit Boss. It's comfortable and adjustable and is available in gloss black. It has a neck/ear collar that zips on and off. The drop down visor is tinted but there is a clear one available.
I would advise you to try several different helmet manufacturers and see which one fits you better. I have several Bell, Simpson and Shoei and they all fit a little different.
I suggest NOT Black. (I ride with the Pit Boss white). I know black is the "cool look" for HD riders, BUT a black helmet and a black jacket or shirt is terrible for "being seen". I don't follow the rules when I ride.....I wear a white 1/2 Pit Boss and either a neon yellow or neon orange shirt in the summer heat and a safety neon yellow jacket in the colder temps. Most important to me is TO BE SEEN. (the safety yellow jacket has a reversable black interior, so if I want I can reverse it when off the cycle.)
Randy...You can touch up the one you have with black bar-b-que paint. I used to have a exhaust that had a ceramic coating that showed everything that ever hit it. The bbq paint wound up being my go to. You will probably have to purchase a clear drop down shield as I have never seen one come stock as a drop down.
I have a Pitboss as well, and have clear, dark and amber shields for it. I probably would buy another one, as it fits well with thr ratcheting strap (Kind of like a hard hat) But my only issue is the part that holds the shield broke early on. I have it rigged so the shield doesn’t fall off, but sometimes I have to re do my rigging.
Was thinking of replacing it with either another one, or the HJC IS Cruiser. This one has the built in shield too, but no zip on ear muffs.
I prefer skid-lid style beanie helmets. Many years ago I learned that I could not keep my helmets from getting scratched...the more I ride, the more it gets scratched. I don't have any issues with how it looks with scratches and bug-guts on it.
I have a BRAND NEW, never worn, w/tags and orignal carton HJC IS Cruiser Helmet- Large (White) that I'd sell at a low price if interested. PM me if you want.
