So, with that Freewire setup, if you want the rider and passenger to interface with the BoomAudio, would you need a freewire device for each person?

That's what I've learned while digging into this, yes.

I just installed the freewire on my bike - it’s a great option. It works perfectly. The only disadvantage is if you ride with a passenger you need two. With the whim, two passengers can connect. But as it has already been said, with The whim, you must use the Harley branded Sena headset for full functionality.

You don't need the Freewire or the WHIM and you still communicate from bike to bike as well as use CarPlay. I have a 2019 Street Glide CVO.

I took my bike to the dealership today and had them disable the microphone in the WHIM setup. I am now able to simply plug in my iPhone and CarPlay comes up without requiring a microphone connected to the bike wirelessly or hard wired. I am loving it. My Cardo PackTalk Bold has voice activation including 'Hey Siri' so this is perfect. A set of the Cardo PackTalk Bold devices goes for about $350. There is no need to drill, remove the fairing, run any wires, etc...

To my knowledge there is only one DIN plug available as a kit. If you have a Ultra with a front and rear DIN you you would need 2 Freewire devices, one for each plug. The Freewire only connects to one wireless headset. That being said, if you have 2 wireless headsets you should be able to communicate between them without any Freewire or WHIM device if they are BT comm devices which most that I have seen are. The Freewire and WHIM just gives you the ability to connect to the BOOM. So, in my case, I can listen to music on the BOOM and still communicate with other wireless headsets.
