Default Avon Cobra Replaced By Cobra Chrome?

I need a rear trie, and am currently running Avon Cobras, front and rear. I understand that running the same brand/tread pattern is important as the front and rear tires are made to work with each other.

I was going to stick with the standard cobra so it matched my front tire, but I can’t seam to find any in stock in the 180/65-16 size. The only ones I can find are the Chrome version. - They are a little more pricy than the original version.

So, does anyone know if Avon discontinued the original?

Does anyone know how much impact there is on wet riding conditions if you mix brands?

I went with Avon this last time around because my tire life from the stock was not as long as what I got out of my Avons on my old bike (Skinner rear tire) But This last Avon wasn’t much better, as I only got about 12K out of it, as compared to the 11 K I got out of the stock.

Not sure if the new Chrome has better longevity.

Well, I did some looking, and jumped the gun asking this question. I went to the AVON website, and the regular Cobra no longer lists the 180/65-16 tire on the list of available sizes, so it must have been replaced. Given it has the same tread pattern, I ordered one from Revzilla.

Next round, I will most likely need to replace both, so I may try another brand on that go around.

BTW Avon is giving a $20 rebate when ordering from select retailers/website. Both of my go tos are listed, and I chose Revzilla sinc I had some Zella bucks I could use.

In my opinion tires are not so expensive as to worry about longevity. Performance is first and I like how my Avons (non Chrome) grip.

I don't think there's an issue with different tread patterns. I could be wrong but the issue is radial vs bias ply. You need to make sure both are the same in that aspect. I run a Cobra on the front with Commander II on the rear without issue.

and there are some bikes that come with radials on the rear and bias on the front.

I run Avon's (non-Chrome) on my Fat Bob. Great tire! I replace them every other year during the winter regardless because I don't want to be tearing it down mid riding season because I wanted to get the last mile out of them. Not worth it to me.

Seems excessive, new tires are a lazy afternoon if you're taking your time. Get the tools you need to do it yourself and you won't have to wait around for a shop. Save some money as well.

I have a Cobra rear I got at closeout price that I'm ready to put on.....I will have to go with the new Chrome model on the front when the time comes...I don't think it matters at all between the cobra and the chrome...

The new tire arrived today, dropped it by the Indy shop for them to swap it out tomorrow. I truest think pulling the trailer 7000+ miles on the super slab, in extreme heat on really helped burn off the center. No belts/cords showing, but well beyond the wear indicators, and very badly cupped.

I just bought a set of Chromes online yesterday. Should get them next week. Looking forward to the improved performance over the stock Dunlops I've got now.
