Default Loose Windshield Insert

One of my screws is pulling the insert out of the inner fairing causing the winshield to loosen. Can anyone tell me how to repair that?

I believe I need to apply some epoxy. But how? Do I pull the insert all the way out, apply the goop and try to press it back in? What kind of epoxy would I use?

Can I do this myself or do I need to take it to the dealer? Thanks for any help!

I'll stop by a dealer and check. I just moved to Florida, have my tools in storage and would have a difficult time taking my Haarley to the dealer for repair. I thought I might try it myself if it's something I could do. My dealer in Salt Lake did not fix it because he said it would take a day for the epoxy to dry and I had to leave that day.

Thanks,

Bob

I haven't had to do this on an actual fairing insert but have done it a handful of times on other injection-molded plastic parts. As you mentioned, pull the insert out, apply some epoxy to the inner walls of the hole, and push the insert back in.

This is, of course, in case you don't want to go to the dealer to have it fixed.

By the way, Devconmakes 5 minute, 2-part epoxy that will be rock hard in 5 mins. I've used the stuff to hold anything from a large granite stone together to exterior woodwork together.

do it yourself and save the hassle of the dealer, save that for a real problem. Oh, and go easy on those fairing screws, they are holding plastic parts together, not metal/engine parts.
