Another angle: Seats that are made of REAL leather breath, and are much less prone to "butt burn" than those made of vinyl or naugahyde.
This comes up every time seats and comfort are discussed. I don't know about the rest of you but when it's hot, my a$$ sweats even when I'm not sitting so I don't see how a leather seat is going to keep my a$$ dry. Unless by "breathing" it's going to be blowing air on me.
1st.) 600 miles today? [:-]Thats a CONSTANT 75mph for 8 straight hours
Now I rode from Dayton Beach to NY straight through, I have also spent 33 days on the bike touring the country. Even figured out how to sleep on the bike to avoid time wasted setting up a tent. ( not while I was riding )
So what I am getting at is 600 miles; You need to be registered for the Iron Butt.
I found that as others have said, Air circulation is a must. AND check out Biker Shorts, as in Bicyclists. They are ment to reduce chaffing. Most of them use a synthetic wool blend to keep moisture away from the skin. Just about anything will be better than cotton underwear.
600 miles in a day is VERY reasonable. I did 704 miles Sunday. Hollister, CA to Sherwood, OR. Bill is right. No way you can average 75 mph for a day. I took the shortest route from Hollister to I-5 north and was between 70 and 80 all day long. Left camp at 6:50am and pulled into the house at 7:30pm. That's an average speed of 55mph. Gas stops and one long (45 minutes) stop for lunch. I was on a Corbin Classic Solo (leather) and had no problems.
I ran accross this problem already and my wife gave me an idea. We got a tube of that woman cream stuff for down blow trouble.
Man before I applied that stuff I was about to do the dog dragg across the side walk. Almost
instant releif if you can't find any of the other stuff on the road, go to any drug store and this sould give
you releif.
