It's my understanding there are three comfort flex seats that were used on the electra glides, one for the flh from 1977-1980,then there was another one that didn't require the center post spring set up from 1981 and later, but it's been recently brought to my attention, that there was a third one that could be used on the flt and flht frame with rubber mounts,it had a flat plate that went across to attach to the frame and the back of it attached to the fender like the other ones.Am i correct about the third one?
Repost your question in the shovelhead section of this forum. Several of the guys there will have an answer for you. I have a bear trap seat on my Electra glide.
I have received two manuals, for a 1980 flt, that i bought on ebay ,amf ones, one for service, one for parts, the one for parts does indeed show one frame that both the frame mounted seat and the comfort flex seat will fit on,i'am not gettin how the flex comfort seat will fit in there but i'am sure it will.I was hoping some body could tell me are the frames the same for the evolution bikes up to 1992 as the rubber mounted shovelheads, because i have this comfort flex seat, the wright one mind you for flts, that i want to use on evos from 1984 to 1992.The seat mounting would have to be the same.
I know this response is super late. The one for the 80-82 FLT is different than the <80 FLH. They are all still spring loaded on the FLT’s. I just installed the Flex frame on my 81. If you need copies of the parts brake down on both I have them if you need them. I was going to try to convert a FLH one over, but I got lucky and found one on Craigslist in OH.
Thanks very much for this Mike,it's exactly what i was wanting to see,in terms of where it bolts down on the frame. You see i don't have the bike yet but i have the seat like yours there and i wasn't quite sure where it bolts on to the frame ,bought it on ebay a few months ago.I'am putty sure it can be used on an evo as well up to 1992.

you would think once they started modifying or redesigning the from original, like adding plates n shocks, they might have thought to give it, its own name

There is a 3rd one. I am looking for one. If you have any luck finding a part number message me?

yes there is a third one and I am looking for it. I have the second one from 81 up and I am about to give up and adapt it to my 1983 FLHTC which uses the third type. I have only seen one of the third type on a guy's bike I bought some parts off of here in Southeastern Indiana. I have pictures of his and how it is to mount on that flat plate. Finding one is the hard part.
