Default LRS windshield keeps cracking at mounting bolts

2 years ago I swapped my stock windshield for a recurve LRS, loved it. I installed it as per instructions, no lock-tite and made sure not to overtighten the bolts. Within a couple of months it started cracking around the outer mounting bolts, I called LRS and they sent me a new one. This happened again a few months later, LRS sent me a new windshield again, so this is my third one. I was washing the bike yesterday and found cracking again. I called LRS and they are getting back to me, this will be my fourth. They asked me if anything is out of alignment with my mounting hardware, but it's fine. I love the windshield, but this is puzzling. Anyone else having this issue?

I'm on my third windshield. I'm getting tired of wasting my time installing windshields.

Do you have the spacers and rubber washers in place?

There is a gasket material attached to the metal crossbars that mount to the windshield. Of the three windshields I've received from LRS there have never been any spacers provided, nor to the instructions refer to any spacers.

The spacers, if any, would be stick as part of the frame. Not part of the windshield. It been 20 years since I replaced a Road King windshield in the stock mounts. And I am assuming that one was a Harley one.

What does your parts manual show?

On the backside of the metal brackets should be foam for the whole length.

Is the screen pre-curved to the shape of the metal?

I have had similar problems with OEM shields for RK's. I eventually found the pre-drilled holes in shield would contact the retaining bolt no matter how careful you tried to properly align shield before snugging it down. Enlarging the hole with a step drill finally solved the cracking problem. These shields should come with oversize holes and grommets.

That sucks. I'd also try some rubber grommets. At least LRS is taking care of it.

Apples & oranges - my LRS recurve is on a '14 Ultra; however, no problems. Perhaps a sandwich of rubber washers would solve your problem?
