water pump
Probably have other posts but I can't find them. My 2015 Ultra Limited is in the shop to get new water pump. Already had it replaced 2 years ago, so this is the third one on the bike. I know that HD has finally come out with an upgrade. I am so happy I decided to get the extended warranty since I was told the pump costs $320+ and 4 1/2 hours to install. Will only cost me another $50 to have it done. What I am most upset about is that when HD became aware of the problem with the first pumps failing they did nothing but charge the full cost of replacing for those who didn't buy the extended warranty. Knowing there was an issue it would seem HD should not be charging the full cost to replace the defective pumps. Maybe not a full recall, but replace at a minimal fee. I am disappointed the HD does not stand by the quality of the pumps that were installed on the new bikes when bought. They should be replacing the defective pumps at no charge, not charging the full shot to have it replaced.
I agree with you. They should do a full recall on these defective pumps, even if the one you have has not failed yet. Junk, right out of the box.
HD has been letting the customers test their crap designs for years now. ENOUGH !

I'm surprised it takes 4 1/2 hours for a trained technician to change out the pump. I haven't studied mine that closely but when I've had the cover off it seems to sit out there in the open, pretty easy to get to. Maybe you have to change a bunch of hose routing or something. If you've had problems, well then you have. For what its worth mine has six riding seasons and 36,000 miles on it with no issue so far. I did change the coolant once and should again this winter.
Mine is a 2015 Ultra Limited and is Twin cooled! There is a rushmore section to post in but M8 are not the only liquid cooled motors!

For the OP, curious about your extended warranty. With all that has been done AFTER the factory warranty expired, has your out of pocket for the extended warranty been more, less, or about the same as if you had paid for all of the repairs without the extended warranty? There is only one way an extended warranty works out for the owner, and that is if he is unlucky enough to have a trouble prone bike making the cost of repairs exceed the price of the warranty.
Poor design, bad parts, many have been where you are. I have an )* Road King that came with the under designed compensator. I have bought 2 new ones, no help from Harley. My older son has a Ford with a known bad transmission that has a class action suit against it. His share of the class action award would be $200, he has spent $2000. $200 is better than NOTHING, but not by much. Harley is far from being the only company leaving the owner "holding the bag" once the warranty expires.
