Default belt change

Hello everyone. I am in need of doing a belt change and also a rear pulley and while I am at it was thinking I would do a front pulley. I am looking for info on what gasket kits or a complete list of parts I would need to acquire to do this on my 08 ultra. I do have a friend that has a car repair shop that also rides and has done several belts that says he is willing to help me. If anyone has an idea of parts with numbers it would be much appreciated.

I highly recommend purchasing the service manual for your bike before proceeding. Here is a snapshot of what is involved with the replacement. Aside from the inner primary and outer primary gasket kits there are several specialty tools you may want to consider that will facilitate the job. There is also a writeup and links to videos in the "How To" section of the Forum https://www.hdforums.com/how-tos/a/h...ve-belt-420069

Note this is for a Dyna but the proceedure is similar.

Thank you. As I said in my original post, my friend has done this on 3 or four bikes and has all the tools to do this so I just need all the parts. I do have a manual, I just haven't pulled it out yet to see if they list parts.

The manual will not give you part numbers. The best way to do it is to walk into the dealership and tell them what you are doing. Any knowledgeable parts guy will know what you need. The rear pulley is aluminum and will wear and should be changed every time the belt is. The front pulley is steel and when I changed the belt had no visible wear at all. Unless someone else here can explain it I don’t believe it needs changed.

Besides belt, what else? Front and rear pulley?

Unless your bike has a really big mileage and the original front pulley, then as Mike points out above, you don't need to change it, as it is very robust. In almost 30 years of owning belt drive Harleys I've never felt the need to change it, except to alter the rear drive ratio (from stock 32T to 30T).

For details of parts, there are parts websites, where you can see those itemised and broken down. Also consider replacing rubber parts, such as seals that will be disturbed. You have the book, so now is the time to read the darned thing, where you will learn a whole lot more!

What is high mileage? And what moles did you put on each bike in 30 years? People never throw that in.

I got 60 and 80 on mine. Thinking of doing 80k this winter.

I changed my belt at 121,000 only because I had the trans and swingarm off because the trans needed replaced. Even though I could see some wear on the belt and a little more wear on the rear pulley I wouldn’t have changed the belt otherwise. A belt unless damaged will last as long as the engine. The front pulley looked like new so I didn’t change it. I replaced all of the seals and gaskets in the primary and the swingarm bushings and rubber mounts. The swingarm and the entire primary must come off to change the belt. If you buy parts online expect to pay a little over $500.
