Trans leaking into Primary
I am pretty well in tune with my 2003 Ultra but I do not know your machine like you do. However, like back then, I can look at the on-line parts fiche to see how it is put together and I am having difficulty envisioning the logic on how transmission oil can migrate into the primary or vice-versa unless both the transmission output shaft and the inner primary cover seals are really trashed.
If the output shaft seal is bad, it would seem there would be a lot of oil on the belt and pulley and undercarriage...and garage floor. And, if that much oil is moving from the transmission into the primary, then I would expect the shifting and clutch operation would be affected. Any transmission fluid that is being vented overboard under pressure will leave a trail, and that much being vented overboard should make a noticeable mess between the primary and transmission...and garage floor. It's just not a logical assumption that this much oil can migrate like it would have to without leaving some noticeable oil on the floor. I do not understand how the transmission can operate quietly and shift normally with that much oil missing or how the additional oil in the primary isn't noticeable.
You're missing something. I am thinking the transmission was not properly serviced last time.
