I also have a rk custom ('05). I have not swiched seats, but have read all the threads on the matter. After doing so, I have determined it is a personal decision. Some like/don't like both. If I had to buy a new seat, I would steer toward Mustang, for price reasons. Besides, like I have said, I have read that both are great, or both suck. LOL In my opinion, though, you might think about a seat modification. Allen at www.meancitycycles.com does them. He is a sponsor of the forum, and gets excellent reviews. I, actually, have not read a single complaint about the job he does. If you want to sit lower, and keep the stock seat (which I like the looks of), check him out. BTW, having him redo your seat is less expensive than purchasing a new seat. JMHO...

And a big ol' WELCOME to the forum. Once you figure out the whole posting pictures thing, I would love to see your bike. Also, feel free to ask any and all questions. The people on this site are very friendly, and have (usually) great advice and knowledge.

I just got a Mustang solo for my Street Glide. I have only put a very few mile on it, but my initial impressions are:

- Even though it measures exactly the same distance from the nose to the start of the upward curve at the back (15") it still seems to move me back, which is a bad thing since I'm 5'8" with a short reach.

- It sits higher than stock. When I'm stopped, the nose is a bit narrower so I can still flat-foot it, but when I'm riding, I'm definitely sitting a bit higher.

- It is definitely harder than stock, and the back support has a much different feel than stock.

Overall, so far, I'm not overly impressed with my new Mustang seat, but I am not throwing in the towel just yet. I have read that it takes at least a couple of thousand milesof seat-time to break in and become more comfortable.

I am a big fan of Corbin seats. They do cost a little more than Mustangs but the top of the seat is leather, not vinyl and if you are short they offer most of their seats in what they call the CLOSE version which does move you closer to the bars, not farther away. All their seats come with the slip in backrest option already built into them. Go to their website and have a look.

Hey SEALHOG. Welcome to HDF. You will find a lot of good and different ideas here, so my best advice is look for your self. I hated my stock seat, it was way too uncomfortable for long rides and I slid around on it. I bought a Mustang Regal Touring seat and liked it a lot. Corbins are really nice but require a break in period. I also bought a C& C Customs solo seat for solo riding. It sits lower, much lower than stock and is very comfortable and looks great also. I recently sold my Mustang Regal and bought a Mustang solo with backrest after seeing one on a friends RK. It is way comfortable and the passenger pillion is on and off in a few minutes. That makes my Custom into 4 different bikes with my detachable tourpak and different seats. I also bought a quick detach lockable fairing from Dead Center Cyclys for some tunes. You will find your King is a very versatile ride and can be configured and reconfigured in many ways to suit hatever you like. It has also been my experience that I can buy a seat, ride it ad if I do not like it sell it for about what I paid for it if I A. Shop wisely and B. Take good care of it. Ride Safe,
Mile
