Default Protecting Your Posterior

In 40+ years of riding, I've tried to do as much as I could to make myself visible to cagers....including looking for ways to enhance brake lights. These attempts have included small but bright LEDs, strategically placed so as to be visible when they luminated as the brakes were applied, to devices which caused the brake light, when activated,to produce an attention-getting pattern.

This past weekend I decided to install HD part # 69461-06, which is described as a "Run, Brake, Turn SignalModule, Flat Lens." In short, the rear yellow turn signal lenses are replaced with red lenses, and the module, when installed, causes these lights to burn all the time, becoming brighter when the brake is applied, and obviously also blinking when the turn signals are activated.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised and impressed. The two additional lights burn brightly enough to be easily seen, even during daylight, and the increased intensity when the brakes are applied are alsoeasily seen during daytime as well. The effect after dark is even more dramatic. I immediately noticed that cagers were giving me more space at stoplights and not closing in on the rear of my bike, as is often the case. The install for 07 touring models is a 10 minute, plug-and-play job. For pre-07 models, the job is a little more difficult, requiring some simple wire splicing, and probably increases the task from 10 minutes to 15 minutes. All in all, I am very pleased with the results, and feel like it was $43.96 (At Chicago HD) well spent.

DelawareDon: Thanks for the info. I'm considering the same change. Any idea why the lenses are changed from amber to red??

Thats one of the first things I do to my bikes. It was a plug and play on my '06 and on my '03.

Peddler...The lenses are changed from amber to red because they now become brake lights, which by law, are required to be red. It is legal to have red turn signal lenses, but not amber brake light lenses.

I would really like to add this to my 07 Ultra Classic. I did a search of that part # on Chicago HD and came up with 2 different parts:

Does anyone know what the difference is between these 2 parts and which one I would want for my Ultra?

Also, with this kit installed, could the brake light modulator still be installed as well?

I'm thinking you would want the number ending with an "A" I think that means it's an updated part.

I have always ran these, on my 07 I installed one and all was plug and play no wire cutting/splicing involved

I put this on the day I bought my bike. But I left theyellow lenses on. I know you're going to say it's illegal, half the stuff on most of our bikes are illegal, but they are WAY more noticable and that's what I'm going for!!! I doubt highly as you pass a police officer with your loud pipes and your not so DOT approved helmet that he's going to pull you over for having yellow brake lights, which he won't notice unless you hit the brakes.

Like FLHT said go with the one with the "A" after it. It just means the original part# has been superseded by the one with the "A". Sometimes they supersede the part #'s even though there hasn't been any changes to the part. I used to be parts mgr. @ HD dealership.
