Was riding home from work last night at midnight and came around a corner and had just flicked on the high beam and was throttling up a hill. I was going about 40-50 mph and a deer flew out in front of me. I locked it up and heard/felt the front tire skidding so I let loose. Thank God I let loose because a second deer was right behind that one and I quickly throttled up and somehow snuck in between the two deer with the second one just missing me. Yes I do have a gremlin ride bell
RE: Don't know how I did it, but I missed the deer
Did you throw out your shorts when you got home?
That is my biggest fear riding around here at night, damn moose and deer scare the hell out of me. I've had a couple of close calls with wild turkeys, and that's enough for me.
RE: Don't know how I did it, but I missed the deer
Glad to hear you "made it through" Steve. I barelymissed a deer a few weeks ago with my new bike. It was 4 pm on a Sunday afternoon! My wife and I both threw out our underwear when we got home! Fortunately, there was only one of them. Funny thing is...when I go deer hunting here in Michigan I never see deer..guess I'll have to build a new deer blind big enough to put my bike in! My wife just had a total knee replacement surgery a week ago this past Monday (and she is only 43 years old). Guess I'll be riding solo for the rest of this summer...bummer!

RE: Don't know how I did it, but I missed the deer
I see deer on a daily basis here in the country in Central Illinois. That's my biggest fear. Not only are there more deer, its a good chance it will look like the Hartford buck here. I'm a deer hunter, and as any deer hunter will tell you, you never know when and where a deer will appear. Deer eat on average 6 times a day, but how far they travel from where they bed depends on the weather, the air pressure, the moon phase, the temperature, and whatever goofy thing we noticed happened the day we last saw the big one. The best thing to do ispay extra attentionand slow down during the times you notice deer movement in your area. I have a 14 pointer on the wall, I'm just afraid they'll want revenge. Its probably not thesmartest thing to do, but I will keep my high beam on, no matter what, if I'm on a stretch of road that I know has a lot of deer crossings. I've gotten my share of brights flashed at me, but I have also seen many deer on the edge of the fields.

Good riding Dawg.I have a friend that hit a mule deer at 65 and he's here to talk about it. Came off the scoot, and the tins were wrecked, but the bike lives and he rides as hard as ever. Glad to hear you did ok too!
