08 king piviot shaft
as far as psi, I run anywhere from 36 to 42...
the "slipping' is totally a hit or miss. I couldI ride up to the parking lot I play in and be fine,,, 20mins in or on the first pattern it will kick.
I could be making the first turn outta my street and it happens.
I personally think that it wobbles and then gets in a bind and holds itself there till the next turn or jolt then it shifts back again. .....that's just my .01..
All the bushings and bearings were done at the beginning of the riding season... Fluid in the front forks changed out... tire pressure checked before the trip... etc.... So I couldn't figure what was up....
I like the idea of solidly locating the rear end.... and I like premium suspension components... so on went a set of Progressive 444 adjustable shocks, stock ride height, and I decided to try the touring link out…. The Harley touring rear end is not the best geometry to positively locate the the swingarm , especially while loaded up and cornering... the stock air shocks aren't the best handling package , either... So I put the 444's on, and added the link at the same time... the link is designed to limit the lateral wobble of the stock set up by connecting the swing arm mounting plate to the transmission with a Heim Jointed adjustable link, which tightens up one of the aforementioned weak spots in the geometry... After Installing the shocks and setting proper sag, I installed the link and checked for clearance / interference issues. If you're not sure how to set the sag, there are plenty of vids online to walk you through the process... Properly set sag will significantly improve rear suspension action.... learning how to baseline your sag and learning to get back to your baseline settings will cure a host of handling woes caused by those of us who love to tweek the stock Harley air shocks... just sayin!
It has been a pretty good winter for riding here in the Northeast... so I've been able to put a couple thousand miles on my 02 Cop Bike... The Progressive shocks give a solid planted feel, and that gives me a lot more confidence through the sweepers... I have not felt any of the handling wobbles that prompted me to beef up the suspension... I set the shocks a little stiffer than the factory guidance for my weight and how I ride.... I don't mind a bit of additional suspension stiffness, and the ride seems just right for when my GF hops on back. Her review from the passenger seat is nothing short of fantastic... she can feel a huge improvement!
The weather is changing up a bit.... more riding days is always a good thing... My Baby goes back to the Local Indy for the treatment soon.... We'll see how he likes the ride... Next add-on... Progressive monotube front suspension system... can't wait to give a report on that setup....
Separately, have you ever simply slackened the drive belt and pushed the rear wheel side to side? With the belt tension relaxed, I could then chase down the play. It wasnt where I expected.
