Default Hooking up accessories directly

I am planning to hook up my satellite radio, gps, and ipod to the accessory connection below the seat. I purchased the "Y" connection and the basic parts to make the 'male' part of the connections. I do have the service manual and parts catalog and have used then several times so far. However, I still have a few questions;

1. Should I use a fuseable link when connecting these devices? The adapter for the cigarette lighter has a fuse built into it, should I add that size fuse into the line?

2. I heard that there is an extra connection in the front fairing for some Canadian or International connection. Is there?, and if so can I use that for the satellite radio. I have the satellite radio on all of the time and would love to have it "hard wired" if possible.

Thanks in advance, this forum has been a blessing, I really appreciate the help

It's yer wirin' harness, so it's up to you. Ah might say that ah NEVER install an accessory circuit without a fuse - cheap insurance, IMO. Ah generally fuse it @ 50% of the ampacity of the wire ah'm usin'. Overkill? Yeah. But ah've never cooked a harness, an' ah've had bikes w/19 auxilliary relays on 'em.

Thanks guys, I think I will connect the Satallite Radio directly to the back of the cigarette lighter. Will I run into a load problem if I try to charge my cell phone while the Satallite Radio is on??

there is a connection on the light circuit that we don't use on the domestic model. I just tapped into it, like just used the spade connector, simple as that. Mine was taped to the fairing.

One more question... I was planning on taking the cigarette lighter adaptor apart and splicing the wires into the connection. When I took apart the cigarette lighter adaptor there was a little circuit board in there, do I need to use that?? I was planning on just using the back of the existing cigarette lighter receptacle on the bike and running the wires from the cigarette lighter adaptor to the receptacle ends, am I on the right track??

Yes, you DO - that's a transformer! If you hook it up straight, you'll toast it!

Thanks Texas!! I did use it and it worked perfectly. I made it part of the line and it worked. I read several posts where they said they just hooked it up directly... I can't figure it out... they must have12v receivers, I guess. My next project it to hook upa GPS to the ACC switch connection under the seat. I noticed that the connection (under the seat) has 4 wires and the power out of the GPS only has 2 (cigarette lighter power)... any ideas. I have purchased the parts to make the female connectors to plug into the "Y" connection under the seat (ACC outlet)..

Thanks again, you have been a tremendous help.

The 4 wire lead ah ain't sure 'bout, but with a volt meter ya kin figger out which is positive an' which is neutral, so it should be purty easy. Jest make sure the switch is on ta "accessory" or thar won't be no power ta test (don't ask how many times ah figgered that out)!
