I have a 05 Twin Cam with true duals and Rinehart mufflers, Cam up grade that has a weird sporadic miss only when not under load. When rolling on the throttle or when I'm up to 50 mph or above and under constant load it runs and sound fine with great power. When going through town not under a load it sounds like hell very sporadic. If someone else has had this problem and could save me time and money I would sure appreciate the help.
I have a 03 Electra glide, Rineharts, true duals, cams ??, and have the very same problem.. Runs great, pulls hard, but slight miss when not under a load. Add just a little more throttle and it goes away. Not fixed yet. Plugs, plug wires, New injector connectors, TPS ohms good, injector cleaner. I'm thinking maybe a tune.
I took mine to a independent shop with a Dyno that I've used before that is a good Harley mechanic. The Dyno tune didn't do any good because the Dyno puts a load on it and it runs fine with a load. He said bring it back and he'll try something different maybe injectors I will tell him you tried wires. Thanks for the reply though I was the only one this ever happened to.
No popping on deceleration. Does the stumbling and weird miss at neutral throttle but pulls good under load. Put a PCIII on that didn't change anything it was doing this before.
It never pops. The 03's had a problem with a tight wire going to an injector connector. Would pull the wire apart inside the insulation at the connector and makes an intermittent problem. Replaced both connectors with about six inches of new wire. Had a Delco number that was a lot cheaper at the auto parts store. Have pulled the spark plugs several times and they both look great. Kinda leads me to believe that both cyclinders are doing it. It drives me crazy sometimes. Been like this sense I bought the bike 2 years ago. ( My 01 with the older FI never did this, but did pop a lot). It did come with a Screaming Eagle tuner box. it's a small black box with RS232 connectors on both ends. It's not installed on the bike, but came with it in the tour pac.
sure sounds like a lean mixture at that certain manifold pressure. Can your tuner narrow down that particular 'cell' and bump up the richness only there?
Skyhawk That is exactly what my 05 is doing sounds like crap at around 2000 to 2500 rpm second gear just floating no power to the rear. Going to take it back to my indy shop tomorrow he said he messed with it for a long time on the Dyno and thought it was fine he never took it for a ride I guess. I told him he couldn't put it on the Dyno because that puts a load on it and it runs fine with a load against it. I will discuss the lean mixture with him but I can't stop thinking a component failure. The bike had stock exhaust when I bought it and I look back and think it was there just didn't notice it with the stock stuff. I never rode it much because I bought it in the winter. I just know I can't quit till I find it can't ride it like this.
I hope it is something easy to fix as some of the stuff above. Once everything else is tried and ruled out, it could be worn valve guides. Engine pulls fine, engine brakes normally but when doing neither (float) it will miss. Will it miss when revving steadily at 2000 to 2500 in neutral? If it does, tell that to mechanic and he will have a better chance of tracking it down. He is probably looking for something while making power rather than when coasting.
