When at the stealer and they are preping it they set it for about 1.5 to 2.0 SWR this way you have close range and will not distort when riding in a close group. If you would like it better then go to a CB shop and have them set the SWR for as close as 1.0 as they can get. Other then that enjoy it. I use mine all the time and it is about 1.5 miles to 2 at best.
Although my CB turns on, all I hear is static. I never hear anyone talking, and no one ever replies when I talk (that's nothin' new though). I've even adjusted the squelch. Is mine broken or something?
Turn to ch 19, you should hear the truckers, if your close to an interstate.
Your antenna is installed and the metal whip wasn't cut?
Still nothing check antenna cable connection on both the radio and antenna sides.
Cutting the antenna will greatly decrease the range (TX and RCV) of the CB.
Also damage, to the TX section, could happen if you transmit with a shorted antenna.
The base loaded antenna replacements, work poor at best.
Mount your antenna on an all steel flat bed trailer with chains dragging the ground at all four corners. There's not enough of a ground plane on the back of the bike. I have buddy that big into CB's. He had a chain welded to the back of his truck and would go down to the lake and throw in the chain, siad it gave him a better ground. He sure could FU all the TV's in the neighhborhood when he keyed the mike.
