Does anyone know what band the CB radio on the FLHTCU uses? Is it VHF (27MHz) or UHF (466/477MHz)? I've checked my owner's manual and searched the web, but I can't any technical specifications on the CB radio anywhere.

Range is a mile and a half, maybe two. A little more than that out in the open. That's usually been plenty of range for what I've used it for, a little over line of sight.
Thanks, although it's a little disappointing. I figured it would be good for around 5 miles like the car mount ones. I wonder if it can be boosted? That would be nice if you get stuck in construction zones or just need to know what is up ahead.
CB operates in the HF band. It's Amplitude Modulation. VHF (very high Frequrency) is typically Frequency Modulation. HF uses longer antenna, VHF shorter, UHF shorter still.

Citizen Band (CB)ues 27 Mhz (or"11-meter" inamateur radio jargon)and has 40 channels. Is is indeed in the HF band, and uses amplitude modulation (AM) as you pointed out. It is of interest to alsonote that AMconsists of a carrier and two side bands. Many CB radios have single side band (SSB) capability, with upper and lower side bands. I don't know if the FLHTCU radio hasSSB capability.
Another point of interest is that 462.525 MHz to 467.475 MHz was alsodesignated for citizen band use, which is in the UHF range of the radio spectrum.UHF did not enjoy the same interest as 11-meter for CB use, and I am not sure if this frequency range is still assignedfor this purpose. Maybe someone else can enlighten us on thatdetail.
The only place you will get five (5) miles out of a CB on on extremely flat ground (Kansas, Arizona Desert, Texas, and etc.), and that assumes that you have inversted time and money in getting the antenna system matched to the specific channel you dish to transmit and recieve on.
The last time we turned on a CB, it was nothing but a bunch of chatter, with very very little useful information.
