did a quick search and didnt find what im looking for but im sure its been asked
ok im broke like everyone else right now,I have a 19 electraglide standard, Ive already done a screaming eagle air cleaner. just for looks really, didnt expect a performance gain. and a stage one map with harleys pro tuner. (only bought that because I want to keep warranty in tact for next 18 months)I need to do slip ons , again not expecting much of a performance gain. in fact most of my reading about the M8 shows a loss in low end torque with most slip ons. but I would like a little louder tone. dont have money for slip ons now, and unless I use screaming eagle or I think any EPA compliant slip on, I lose warranty anyway. Has anyone drilled out stock mufflers baffles? ive done this on many older bikes and it did help sound a bit. ths M8 is a whole different beast. figured I could drill baffles out and tune like it has stage one slip ons. if anyones done it whats it sound like? hopefully in the next few months ill have $$ but would like to do this for the time being. its free
With the cats in there still you won't feel much but you might hear a little more. Idk how much cats messed with low end but not having a baffle won't help. There are tons of pipes that dont eff up low end. I may be all wrong as my bikes have all be pre 08 so idk crap about the m8.? Most people would say wait and do the right thing and I'd have to agree. There are pipes for sale all dya everyday in the classifieds
Drilling out your baffles is modifying your OEM EPA approved exhaust, which will void your warranty. I only mention it because that seems to be a concern of yours.
Yeah I knew that. Thanks. I have a complete spare exhaust system. Ive havent heard much good either way about removing cat. Most say they are pretty efficient and dont hurt performance. Again right now not lookin for performance. Just want bike a little louder. Once warranty is up Ill probably do a full exhaust, cam and a real tuner. Just was hoping someone would respond that they drilled baffled and like the wAy they sound. Im probably going to do it. If I dont like it I have another set to put on
The new OEM mufflers are extremely light, only wrapped and short baffle pinch tube at the end. The pinched baffle is crimped on the inside and easily opened up with a punch or chisel. I always remove the muffler and open the baffle from the outlet end keeping the inlet on a piece of soft wood. You can adjust the DB level by the opening or closing of the crimped end. This is the most inexpensive way to achieve the sound level especially since you have a second set on hand in case of warranty. The cat still muffles the exhaust but not to the extent of the pre 17-18 head pipe.I can not say the power is better or worse, but the sound is changed and no weight gain from some of the after market mufflers.
Fullsac is a proven performer, nice deep note, and will not break the bank. Since the oem cans are used, the bike still looks epa Drilled out baffles sound thin and like a tin can imho..
