CarPlay is enabled by default if when you plug in your iPhone if your bike is equipped with a Wireless Interface Headset Module (WHIM). It does not have to be enabled by the dealership.
The purpose of CarPlay is reduce distraction when riding so it is totally voice activated. By design, there is no way for your text messages to appear on the GTS screen. CarPlay can read them aloud to you through a headset or the bike's speakers but they cannot be displayed. As someone already pointed out, there is an indicator showing you how many new messages you have but that is it.
