I have a 2013 Street glide and this weekend going on a cruise I noticed a whining noise as I was shifting and accelerating. once I decelerated it would stop and upon accelerating it would continue. Once I was in 6th gear it went away. but going threw the gears it would get louder. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Yore post #1!
Welcome to the party!
I hope you get some reasonable answers. Mine isn't.
Get a louder exhaust!
On the serious side it sounds like a bearing within the transmission. A bearing that's not used for 6th gear if that's possible. You've had this bike for awhile and this is a new noise?
Yes! I never noticed it before. When I accelerate it would make the noise. If I release the throttle it would stop. And as I mentioned going in to 6th gear no noise.
I have had something similar and traced it to the belt, believe it or not. A little silicone spray on the belt and it would stop....for awhile, then return. loosened the belt tension slightly and it want away permanently. The "whine" could in reality be a belt squeak only when the belt is pulling hard, not enough torque in 6th to make the belt pull that hard. At least you don't have to take anything apart (except remove a saddle bag) to spray the belt. Give that a try before getting out your set of tools.
