I'm having a brainstorm. Yeah, I know, the earth is shaking!
Would there be any benefit of adding an SE aircleaner and a set of older stock mufflers say from the 90's that would flow better than the ones on my '07 Ultra?
I added a Arlen Ness A/C and the Thundermax to my '07RG with stock mufflers, bike ran VERY strong up to about 4000rpm, then started to fall off. I was very surprised at how well the bike ran.
I rode it up to the Sturgis area a couple of weeks ago and even on the hiway, at 65mph, it pulled 6th gear with no problem. I took off my Supertrapp SE mufflers for the trip.
When I got back I bought a set of the SE Street Performance Mufflers #64985-07, I don't think they run any better or have any more volume than the stock mufflers, they just look nicer. Gonna sell them.
Here's a question. I was watching Drag Racing on ESPN HD last night with the Surround Sound turned up loud! On comes an HD commercial talking about the melody or who wrote the song or some other crap, but anyway it was a voice over the exhaust note and the exhaust note sounded GOOD! Of course you couldn't hear the 5th gear clatter, but damn! it sounded good. I want those pipes. They must be HD right? It was an HD commercial!
You know, they changed the design of the left muffler when they went to a rear O2 sensor. I understand the L/R mufflers were the same inside in previous years. I'm sure they had a legitimate reason for the change and you might do well to ponder it.
It's also fairly possible the newer mufflers "flow" better than the older ones. Just because they're quiet doesn't mean they don't flow well.
