Intercontinental Restore Help
I'm having an issue the good folks over at Harley and NaviExtras are unable to solve so far. I've searched the forums and found some similar issues, but not exactly what I am dealing with, so here goes:
Background: My motorcycle is an H-D 2014 Street Glide Special (not CVO). It has the Boom! Box 6.5GT Infotainment head unit and originally came loaded with North America (NA) Premium maps.
I am the third owner of the motorcycle and unfortunately do not have any contact with the original owner. The original owner performed an "INTERCONTINENTAL REPLACEMENT," replacing the NA Premium maps with EU Premium maps, in early 2015 sometime. He did this based on being stationed in Europe. I brought the motorcycle back to the states in the summer of last year and so far have been completely unsuccessful in restoring the NA Premium maps.
Here's what I have attempted so far:
1. Attempted to restore using the step by step directions at https://harley-davidson.naviextras.c...me=pageRestore. After allowing the head unit to fully boot/load including the Nav, the head unit won't move past "authenticating."
2. Investigated the License on the "fingerprint" and identified the replacement was: Harman_OpenNav_Harley_EU_Premium_2014Q2_PROD3_Repl ace_13q2_NAP
3. Attempted to restore using the 2015 Restore package since that matched the license above. The head unit still would not move past "authenticating."
4. Restored the head unit to factory settings and reattempted (1) and (3). No change.
5. Attempted to perform the most recent INTERCONTINENTAL REPLACEMENT (to replace EU Premium maps with NA Premium maps). When plugging in the USB drive after 20-30 seconds of "authenticating" the Error: navsync_errornotvalid is received. My assumption is that I keep getting this error because the system will not allow a "replacement" to be copied over a "replacement" hence the supposed ability to restore. I don't know this to be a fact and Harley can't confirm this either, thus why it's just my assumption.
6. I also fiddled with copying files from the fingerprint onto the restore and replace USB drives after all else had failed in order to hopefully "trick" the system into forcing the upload, but this was also unsuccessful. No differing results were received, same results for steps 1, 3 and 5.
Here's some supplemental information:
1. I am not attempting to perform an update, although when "marrying my fingerprint" with the NaviExtras toolbox, my device is recognized as an EU Premium head unit, not an NA Premium unit. Once again, my assumption here is because the IC Transfer has been performed.
2. I am using a Windows PC with the Windows 7 Operating System, not a MAC, although I do have one.
3. I reformat the USB drives before loading different/new content.
4. I have attempted to use different sizes and brands of USB drives with no differing results.
5. I allowed the "authentication" process run for about two hours before finally just giving up. Everywhere else I read anything about this said the replacement/restore should take no more than 45 min to an hour.
Now, here are a couple of fears/concerns:
1. Part of the fix will be to update my current Mapset (EU Premium) to the latest update in order to restore. I don't have a huge problem doing this as long as someone can confirm that #1. It WILL work, and #2. I will get a full refund if it doesn't. If I upgrade to the latest EU map, it costs about $160. Suppose then it allows me to restore back to the original 2014 NA Premium map; I will then have to pay the $150 in order to get the most current NA Premium maps. For a little over $300, I can get a pretty nice stand alone GPS that will likely be better, more intuitive and come with free lifetime updates.
2. The restore is somehow connected to the original owner's NaviExtras account (assuming he did the IC transfer and not a dealership). And there is no way to get back with his account access. This seems far fetched, but who knows. I haven't performed the IC transfer myself, so I have no experience here, but I do know from the website that the purchases are tracked and stored in your NaviExtras account.
If anyone has any experience in dealing with this type of thing or has any suggestions, I'm in receive mode currently. I'm waiting on a call back from HD, but honestly I'm not very hopeful. Knowing those guys, they will try to get me to replace the entire head unit.
Thanks in advance!

I'm not even going to attempt to work through that mess you've got going on, but let me ask you this. Have you taken the issue to a dealer to see if they can help?
Edit - Since the unit was originally a North America unit, have you tried restoring the North America Premium Factory Map instead of the European Premium Factory Map?

I did last year when I first got it back stateside. Mostly I got a "deer in the headlights" look from everyone including the Service Manager. In not so many words, they told me to take it home and figure it out because likely the diagnostic they would run would cost $90/hr for who knows how many hours, and the SM admittedly said that if they couldn't figure it out, the fix is to replace the entire head unit. So instead of dumping nearly $1700 into what is essentially a $950 brand new head unit, I chose to attempt the fix on my own. At least they were honest about getting ready to rape me ...
That's about par for the course.
Did you attempt restoring the NA Premium Factory Map instead of the European one?
FWIW - Here's one for sale for $500 - https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...ox-6-5-gt.html

That's who I am currently waiting on a call-back from. I spent 20 minutes "educating" the guy on the line about the difference between a map upgrade and the Intercontinental Replacement/Restore, so I'm not getting my hopes up.
Well, if NaviExtras and H-D can't help you, I guess you're SOL.
However, I did find a thread about a similar issue - https://www.hdforums.com/forum/new-r...of-europe.html
See if you can PM Hammz. He seemed pretty knowledgeable about the subject.
