I just added cruise to my 07 FLHX today. I have a couple of questions.
1) The old switch housing had a tension adjuster screw. Tensioner did not seem to fit the new housing. Does this not get replaced/added to new housing?
2) When I had my RKC and was riding with the cruise engaged, I could roll the throtle toward the front of the bike and feel a snap/locking point that would disengage the cruise control. I don't feel that on this bike. Should I feel this? Does the Tensioner play into this?
3) The cruise cable seems loose going behind air filter. There is some play in the cable. I did the cable adjustment. But should it not be tight?
Everything seems to work, I did have a problem when I took the bike out for a ride the plastic piece attached to the cruise control cable fell off where it attaches to the induction module. I did not have it snapped into place. I had to redothe cable adjustment setting.
The new housing that comes with the cruise control kit does not have a throttle tensioner. You wouldn't want to have the throttle cable tightened and engage the cruise control. The throttle needs to be able to move freely.

Mine didn't fit either, and I didn't attempt to re-install it. With CC you really don't need it, and after about eight months I can say that I don't miss it at all. Compared to the CC, that adjuster is old school technology.

I can't say that I've felt anything like this either, but I don't routinely roll the throttle to disengage the CC.

Just checked, and mine is taut. Not tight like a guitar string, but the cable is straight, not bent from slack.
My throtle cruise cable does not seem taut! I can take my finger and pull some slack out of it. I figured it should not be "tight" but I don't consider it to be "taut" either!
The thumb screw/throttle lock should not be installed with the cruise control; it defeats the cruise disengage if you can manually lock the throttle cable with the tensioner screw.

"Taut" was the word that seemed to fit, but it's hard to define tautness. The cable is straight, thus looking taut, but isn't tight.
Your roll off switch should work just like your Road King. It is a noticeable CLICK feeling that should disengage your cruise control. You might not have seated the roll off switch when you installed the right grip. I did this and had the same problem. On the right side of your steering neck you should seewhere your throttle cables run under the tank. Right there in front of the tank is the roll off switch. Check to see that the cable conduit is mated inside the rubber bell shaped housing.
If that does not work, make the cruise lash adjustment procedure if you havent already.
With the Cruise switch in the on position and bike in Neutral:
1. Turn the ignition off
2. Hold the cruise switch toward resume
3. Turn on the ignition, the red indicator lamp should be on
4. While still holding the switch in resume: Start the bike, the indicator should turn green for several seconds and the engine should rev slightly, indicator will return to red.
Lash adjustment complete.
Greb,
I don't have that "CLICK" feel when I disengage the Cruise. I don't understand "seating the roll off switch" is there something in the directions/service manual about this? When my bike is turned off I can pull about 1/2 inch out of the cruise control cable. I guess I'll have to look over the directions again. I'll be back on the board in 1 hour.
This is your roll off switch, it is on the right side of your steering neck, just in front of the tank. check to see that the metal conduit is seated inside the rubber boot.
