I've currently got the 26G gear drive in my 05 Ultra. I like the cams, but I've had excessive vibration for the last 5k miles that I can do without.
I'm thinking of changing over to the Andrews roller chain conversion. It looks to be pretty simple, I don't see where any pressing is required.
The 07 SM has one section about a camshaft assembly tool. Is changing the cams on the 07 models really that simple?
No special tools, presses or freezing required? Has anybody had issues with the 07 tensioners?
I did the conversion about 2500mi ago. Only tool I needed was an innercam bearing remover tool that I rented from Dawg on this forum. You are correct that no pressing is required because the new cam support plate has bushings instead of bearings because of the lower pressure hydraulic tensioners. I went with the 26n. You can send me a pm with any other questions you might have.
Why you think the vibration is related to the gear drive cams? Reason I ask, I just put the 26G's in my 05Ultra as well. Noticed a bit more vibration, but assume it's the 95" I put in as well.
