Default Recommendations for a reliable Electra Glide under $10K

Hi,

I had been driving a 750 cc Honda Shadow for a while. I think I can move to something bigger now.

I like Electra Glides. My budget is around 10K. Should I get a low mileage 2004 to 2006 or high milage 2008 and beyond.

Low milage

High milage

I just was insulted with some trade in offers for my reliable 2003. So I think you could get a pretty nice bike for $10k.

You should be able to get a low mileage ’09 for that much. If Ca is more you can buy elsewhere and fly and ride home, or ship it.

You should be able to find a private sale like this for $10k.

I think a lot of people ask more than they expect to get so I would search bikes up to $12k and then offer $10k. I don’t like screwing around so I actually put my real price in my ads but people seem to expect dickering, and that’s why I hate selling stuff.

I’d buy this bike. Offer $11k. If decals come off. This man is squared away.

I would go back to 2002.....if low mileage and offered at a great deal.

I would probably skip 2008.....one year bike.

2009+ is really the way you want to go. These bikes really got the upgrades that were needed.

If you look around you can find deals on 09-up, like this one.

You might have to go further away to get a better deal. I went from Pennsylvania to Florida to get my 13 EGC in 2015, I saved enough to make the trip and still have about 2k in my pocket.

Yep ... I've had several and the upgrades on the 2009 up make it a better scooter ... Not much difference in price either

You should be able to find a good 2009+ ElectraGlide in the 20-40K mileage all day long for $10,000......

Most sellers are far too proud of their bikes and blissfully unaware of what their bikes are really worth on today's market... Don't let some of the inflated asking prices discourage you...

Two years ago I sold a pristine 2012 Ultra Limited with 26K miles for $12,500... I was unrealistic at first because of all the time and money I put into the maintenance and functional mods like seat/shocks/ bars/GPS/ 50 states approved Stage II engine mods/ etc. It looked OEM, but ran & rode better than OEM.... I was asking too much for awhile, but then decided I really wanted to sell it... so I had to become reasonable..

Based on Black Book Power Sports values, a 2012 Electra Glide Classic is right in your budget area for average retail.. and there are deals to be had if you are patient..

Year: 2012
Make: Harley-Davidson
Model: FLHTC Electra Glide Classic
Model Type: Cruiser
Displacement: 1690
Cylinders: 2
VIN: 5HD1FFMAC
Finance Advance: $9,345
MSRP: $19,499
Avg Retail: $10,770
Auction Wholesale $9,005
Clean Trade: $8,580
Fair Trade: $7,680

I would focus on a 2009+ due to the changes made in 2009.... You will be able to find a good one, with relatively low mileage, at your price...

And as always..... the condition and maintenance history are more important than the glitter and to a point, the mileage...

Good luck with the search...

Be aware of the tires.....just because they look good due to low mileage. They could possibly be old. That’s several hundred dollars there if the bike needs them.

A buddy of mine paid $8,950 for a 2013 Limited with 6,000 miles on it. It sat in the garage for the past five years. Still had the original tires....

Just keep an eye on the age of the tires

If you want to do anything to the bike, anything pre 09 will limit your parts choices. 08 isn't so much the 'one year' step child people say it is. It has its oddities, but it just requires knowledge.

They can be found. Just be patient and keep looking. I just bought an 09 Ultra classic with 18K miles for $8750. Was looking of FB market place and everywhere else as far as two states away. Ended up finding this one less than an hour from my house.
