My 2007 Ultra has 5800 miles on it. The passenger head set is cutting in & out. I changed cables and it still does it.
That leads me to believe that the short is in the main cable connection under the tour pack.. Anybody have any ideas on where to begin chasing the proble down? Thanks in advance.
Mine does that too. On the highway it seems to be okay but around town it cuts in and out on the microphone only. She can still hear me just fine. So that could be the pin in the connection that is either bent or wire broken inside of it. It is expensive to replace but I'll bet a savvy radio sort could dissect the molded plug and fix it. [8D]
Make sure you have your VOX set correctly (low enough) and that your CB is not on. Both will make it not work correctly. If CB volume is turned down it still cuts out intercom. Got to play with it.
If you're using the J&M headsets you may be getting EMI ( electromagnetic Interference). YOu can check it by moving the passenger headset toward and away from the drivers and seeing if the noise level changes.
It is not EMI it is a definte loss of signal for just a moment. Can manlipulate cable/connectorand signal returns. I
pulled out the service manual and check the schematic. I ran a continuity test from pin to pin on the headset cables.
I tried to get a repeat drop in signal but could not. That is why I believe there is a short in the main harness.
Need to find a way the check the continuity of the main cable.
You said you changed cables....did you try a different headset? If you have access to a different helmet/headset, try it and see what happens. good luck
First change helmets and see if it changes then make sure the settings are correct and that they are not set to low. I would don't think there is anything wrong with the wiring on the bike. Mine has that sometimes and I just have to readjust the setting for where I am riding.. and how I am ridding with..
If there is anything else that I can help with just let me know and I would be glad to help..
I have talked to John with J&M. He is working on a new Harley /HK headset system. He said he may have it ready ny September depending upon testing and progress.
I will try changing helmets and see if that one works better. Thanks for the help.
