Default Lower vents

Hello everyone, Has anyone experienced issues with their lower vent doors sticking open? The slider will not move even when I try to "help" it along. Its getting chilly and Id like to close them. Im sure someone had had this issue in the past!

Probably have dirt & bugs crusted in there from riding with them open in the summer. Get some dry lube silicone spray and spray it on the sliders and track, then work it back and forth. Should free up, then spray some more in there.

I have the opposite problem where mine won't stay open. Ever since I took them apart to install the lower speaker kit the ratchet function doesn't work. It doesn't bother me enough to take them apart again though, so I just live with it. If i get real bored this week I may have another look at them and if I learn anything I'll get back to you.

Look em over close, as mentioned, prob bugs. Try using a hose with a good stream nozzle, not a pressure washer. Make sure they are empty when you do, just in case. Then lube, once they are free.

Can't recall if the HD brand have a tension adjustment but the aftermarket ones I've dealt with do. You can increase the tension by tightening or loosening the nut on the pivot shaft.

I have always had a harder time getting my left vent to open and close. I tried cleaning and lubing it one time but it didn't really make a difference. I'll take a look and see if there is a tension adjustment, didn't notice one last time I messed with it.

Update: Well i finally got them to budge.......sort of. First I blew them out then I shoved a rag in and sprayed hot water from a bottle on them. That helped enough to move it a little but I had to use one hand on the slider and one hand on the vent itself. Not having much other choice I soaked it down with wd-40 and it freed up enough to move it one handed. I went back to the hot water to flush the wd-40 out and blew it dry again and finally hit it with dry lube. Evidently it hasnt had much exercise so I'll keep that in mind. It seems like its one extreme or the other with these things! Thanks for all the tips.
